American Orator and Statesman
In 1765 elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses in Williamsburg.
Delegate to the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia in 1774.
State legislator from 1780 to 1784.
Re-elected as Governor of Virginia (1784-1786).
Elected as a member of the Virginia delegation to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, but chose not to attend.
His famous words, "Give me liberty or give me death!" have become a part of the American heritage.
